Alex Booker and will introduce you to the traditional tools and techniques involved in creating engaging, high-impact art woodcut art, leaving you with your own compositions to take home and, should you wish, all the materials you need to make more (potentially saving you a fortune on Christmas presents).
Stage 1 of the workshop will cover the use of tools to design, draw and cut woodblocks and explore the process of hand printing using barens and rollers on Japanese Hosho paper.
Stage 2 will delve a little deeper, showing you how to use multiple blocks focus and reduction-cutting techniques to create more complex multi colour prints.
Refreshments and all materials, including tools, paper, inks and birch plywood blocks are provided, as well as pre-cut shapes and pattern blocks you may use in your compositions. You can take home any prints you create (if they're not dry by the end of the session, the studio will send them to you by first class post) as well as your cut blocks, so you can continue to create woodcut artworks at home.
Tools and inks are also available to buy from the Booker Print House if you'd like to continue developing your newfound skills after the workshop.
The voucher is valid for 12 months after purchase at any workshop within that period, either two evening sessions 7pm - 9:30pm or one day course 10:30am - 5:30pm.
Alex studied at Camberwell of Arts, from where he graduated with a Printmaking Masters in 2007, having previously a Fine Art Printmaking Undergraduate Degree in Brighton. Alex has hosted other workshops to date, highlights include Patternity's Pattern Power - Superstripe 2013, Matter's launch at London Design Festival 2015 and private one-to-one studio classes.
